Day 1: Your appointment with power
Dear Friend,
Today is the first day of our five-day Pentecost email teaching series, and if you know me, you’ve heard me say
that God is a God of order, of timing, of seasons. He’s a God of purpose, and He doesn’t operate by our
calendar, but by
His celestial calendar.
In the Hebrew Scriptures, even before the days of Jesus, the Feast of
Shavu’ot had been celebrated for
centuries. It is one of three commanded feasts, and the centerpiece of seven major feasts of ancient Israel
(Exodus 34:22-23; Deuteronomy 16:16; Leviticus 23:15-21).
God created three appointed feast seasons. First, there’s Passover … then 50 days later, Pentecost …
and in the fall of the year is the celebration of Tabernacles.
Concerning Pentecost, the Lord said, “It is a statue forever … throughout all generations” (Lev. 23:21).
But I want to call attention to this feast today, because God Himself called special attention to it.
The Menorah’s Seven Candlesticks
The original menorah had seven candles, with the one in the center standing tall above the others. I believe the Holy Spirit
has shown me one important way we can consider the menorah:
- Each candlestick may represent one of the seven major feasts of the Old Testament.
- By God’s design, three of these feasts are grouped together at the beginning of the year: Passover,
Unleavened Bread, and Firstfruits.
- Then three other feasts are grouped together in the fall: Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and Feast of Tabernacles.
- But Shavu’ot, the commanded Feast of Pentecost, stands alone in the middle of the year — the
centerpiece of the celebrations. Its candle is lifted higher than the others.
The Centerpiece of the Feasts
As I meditated on this, I began to see that both in the calendar and the menorah, God is driving our attention to Pentecost.
He wants us to see the power of this holy day — and He wants to pour out His power on us!
Remember the seven blessings God promises during this Pentecost season:
- POWER to overcome any difficult problem or situation!
- PEACE in the face of any conflict!
- PROTECTION for you and your family!
- PRESENCE of God’s Spirit giving you wisdom and strength!
- PROVISION to meet your every need!
- PERFECTION in all areas of your life!
- PROSPERITY demonstrating God’s favor upon your life!
